Due to increased supply, flower prices decreased at Coimbatore's RS Puram Flower Market on May 3, 2024. Prices of jasmine and other flowers saw a significant reduction.
Coimbatore: Today, the RS Puram Flower Market witnessed a notable decrease in flower prices due to an increase in the supply of various flowers. Just days ago, the price of jasmine, which was selling between Rs. 800 and Rs. 1,000, has now dropped to between Rs. 320 and Rs. 400.
The prices of other flowers were also affected. Chrysanthemums dropped from Rs. 400 to Rs. 320 per kilogram, button roses from Rs. 220 to Rs. 200, rose panneer from Rs. 180 to Rs. 160, mullai from Rs. 300 to Rs. 280, a single lotus from Rs. 20 to Rs. 10, a bunch of tulsi from Rs. 20 to Rs. 10, and sampangi from Rs. 120 to Rs. 80. Conversely, due to a reduced supply, the price of kanakambaram flowers soared to Rs. 1,000.
Flower vendors shared that typically during the hot Chithirai month, flower prices are high due to heightened demand from temple festivals. Although upgraded temperature conditions persist and festivals continue, an unusual surge in supply has led to the current price drop in most flowers except chrysanthemums.
