YouTuber Savukku Shankar was admitted to Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment following allegations and an arrest by Coimbatore Cyber Crime Police. He faces charges related to defamation and drug possession.
Coimbatore: Prominent YouTuber Savukku Shankar was recently admitted to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for medical treatment. This development follows his arrest by the Coimbatore police on allegations of making defamatory remarks about women police officers and officials in a recent YouTube channel interview. Sub-Inspector Suganya of Coimbatore Cyber Crime lodged the complaint.
Following the complaint, police arrested Savukku Shankar from a private lodge in Theni where he had been staying. He was initially detained in Coimbatore Jail. Subsequent to his arrest, another case was registered against Savukku Shankar and his associates, driver Ramprabhu, and Rajarathinam in Theni for allegedly possessing ganja.
During his incarceration in Coimbatore, Savukku Shankar claimed that he was assaulted by the police, resulting in bone fractures in his hand and leg, and expressed concerns for his safety in Coimbatore Jail. He requested to be transferred to Madurai Jail for safety reasons. Following his claims, his legal representation reported these allegations to the court, prompting a legal inquiry into the treatment he received while detained.
The judge, Chengamalaselvan, after hearing Savukku Shankar’s complaints in court, ordered a thorough investigation by the Legal Services Authority and a medical team. Their report led to the court ordering necessary medical treatment for Savukku Shankar.

Consequently, he was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital on May 9th for treatment.
