A team led by Revenue Divisional Officer Jaswanth Kannan inspected 257 school vehicles in Udumalai, ensuring safety compliance including emergency equipment and vehicle stability.

Tirupur: In a significant move towards enhancing the safety standards of school transportation, a meticulous inspection of 257 school vehicles was conducted at Udumalai Netaji Maidan in Tirupur District.

The operation, led by RDO Jaswanth Kannan, in collaboration with RTO Nagaraj and Motor Vehicle Inspector Jayanthi, was aimed at ensuring the vehicles were up to the mandated safety codes.

The vehicles, which are operated by 29 private schools across the Udumalai and Madathukulam taluks, were scrutinized for various safety parameters.

The team checked the sturdiness of steps, floors, and seats of the buses.

Advanced safety features such as speed governors, surveillance cameras, and GPS devices were thoroughly reviewed to ensure they were functioning properly.

Additionally, the suitability of emergency exit routes, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits was verified to enhance safety during emergencies. The inspection also involved the installation of surveillance cameras on both the front and rear ends of the vehicles to prevent accidents.

Following the inspection, more than ten vehicles were found to have defects.

These vehicles were instructed not to operate until they had corrected the issues and obtained the necessary fitness certifications. During the process, driving personnel were also educated on strict adherence to traffic regulations by the revenue officials and transport officers to further ensure road safety.

The exercise also saw involvement from Udumalai Fire Officer Lakshmanan, who provided training to drivers, conductors, and staff on emergency response procedures and handling fire incidents effectively. This comprehensive inspection and training initiative underscores the commitment to maintain stringent safety standards in school transportation within the region.
