Coimbatore: Akshaya Tritiya, a significant festival believed to bring prosperity to those who purchase gold, was celebrated across India on May 10. Despite soaring gold prices and an anticipated 20% decline in sales, Coimbatore district reported unusually high sales figures.

Sabari, the president of the Tamil Nadu Gold and Silver Jewellery Association, confirmed that over 100 kilograms of gold jewellery were sold in the district on that singular day.
