Ooty Mountain Train Service Suspended Until May 20th Due to Landslides

Due to continuous rainfall in the Nilgiris District, the Ooty to Mettupalayam train services have been suspended until May 20th following landslides that obstructed the train path.

Coimbatore: Persistent summer rains in the districts of Coimbatore and Nilgiris, escalating with the onset of the southwest monsoon, have intensified in recent days.

Heavy rainfall on the night of May 17th in Nilgiris District caused landslides along the Mettupalayam-Ooty mountain railway track between the Adderley and Hillgrove stations. The landslides sent boulders tumbling down, completely blocking the railway path. Due to this, the railway administration initially cancelled the mountain train services for one day on May 18th.

However, considering the ongoing severe weather conditions, the rail services between Mettupalayam and Ooty and vice versa have now been suspended until May 20th. Travelers are advised to make alternative arrangements and stay updated with further announcements from the railway authorities.
