43rd Remembrance Day of Udumalai Narayana Kavi Held in Udumalai

The 43rd remembrance day of Narayana Kavi was held at the Narayana Kavi Manimandapam in Udumalai, Poolavadi area, celebrating his long-standing legacy in drama and Tamil cinema.


Coimbatore: The 43rd remembrance day of renowned Tamil playwright and poet Udumalai Narayana Kavi was observed today at the Narayana Kavi Manimandapam in Udumalai, Paying tributes In his honor, garlands were placed on his statue at the Manimandapam. Discussions and resolutions for further promoting his legacy were also conducted. Including the proposal to name the new bus stand under construction at Udumalai Pettai after him, and a request to the Tamil Nadu government to officially celebrate his birth and remembrance days.






Notably, Kavi had left a significant mark over a career spanning 40 years, through his enlightening songs and patriotic tunes in the realms of theatre and film. Signs of neglect were evident as the associated Manimandapam library, extensively used by students preparing for competitive exams, had not received new books for many years. Immediate provision of new books, including civil service training materials, was urgently requested to the state government.




The event was graced by Kavi’s grandson, Sundararasan, a lawyer from Tirupur, who attended as the guest of honor. The head of the literary association, Amirthanayan, welcomed all attendees and outlined these resolutions. Memorable contributions were also acknowledged from several members of the literary board, administrators from the Kongu Regional Research Center, retired officials, and local scholars and students.




The day concluded with a note of thanks from the deputy chairperson of the council, Teacher Sellathurai, marking the end of a respectful tribute to Udumalai Narayana Kavi.
