The CCTV footage capturing "Baahubali," a wild elephant, strolling through Velspuram near Samayapuram has gone viral. The area near Mettupalayam Forest Range is known for animal crossings.
Coimbatore: Samayapuram, a small village located adjacent to the Nellimalai Forest Area within the Mettupalayam Forest Range, has gained unexpected attention due to a wild elephant known locally as "Baahubali." The region, close to the route leading to Vanabadrakaliyamman Temple from Mettupalayam, experiences frequent traffic and serves as a pathway for numerous wild animals including deer and wild boars.
Recently, Baahubali the elephant has been seen more frequently, crossing the Samayapuram Road during its nightly quest for food and water. The elephant's movements from the Nellimalai Forest, through residential areas towards Kallar Forest and back, have been observed regularly. A local farmer, aiming to protect his banana crop from wild animals, erected an electric fence around his garden, which inadvertently affected Baahubali's traditional path. This prompted the elephant to seek alternative routes, further elevating local interest and concern.

The incident last night, captured on a CCTV installed by a resident, shows Baahubali majestically walking through Velspuram.

The video has since spread widely on social media platforms, drawing considerable attention to the area's interaction with forest wildlife and the challenges of human-animal coexistence.
