Major Boost in Tamil Nadu Education: 20,332 TN govt schools get internet facility; 22,931 smart classrooms established

Tamil Nadu's government and aided schools receive a major infrastructure enhancement with 20,332 schools equipped with internet, and 22,931 smart classrooms established. Full connectivity expected by June second week.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has achieved a significant milestone in enhancing educational infrastructure by providing internet facilities to 20,332 government and aided schools across the state. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with BSNL, marks a substantial step forward in integrating technology into the educational sector.

Among the schools that received the new facilities, 5,913 out of 6,223 government high and higher secondary schools now boast this connectivity. Additionally, internet connectivity has reached 3,799 out of 6,992 middle schools and pressures to extend these amenities to the remaining schools continue, with the goal to cover all by the second week of June.

In terms of primary education, a notable 10,620 out of approximately 24,000 primary schools have been equipped with internet services. The initiative extends beyond mere connectivity; the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has also expended Rs 519.73 crore on setting up high-tech laboratories and created 22,931 smart classrooms with an investment of Rs 455.32 crore. These facilities are set to benefit around 46.12 lakh students by fostering a conducive learning environment enriched with modern technologies, driving forward both knowledge retention and educational engagement.

This development not only aids teachers, particularly in rural areas, by reducing their need to visit internet centers for educational purposes, but also significantly uplifts the quality of education for students, preparing them better for the digital age.
