Two workers died in Udayampalayam, Coimbatore, after falling into a water tank during construction work. Police are investigating the cause of the incident.

Coimbatore: A grim tragedy unfolded near Ganapathi in the Udayampalaygeam area, where two workers lost their lives after falling into a water tank at a construction site. Reports indicate that seven laborers were employed at the site, which involves new residential construction.

While working on the site on May 31, Manoj Kumar from Odisha entered the water tank. Suddenly, he fainted and collapsed inside the tank. Witnessing the ordeal, a mason from Dharmapuri named Kumar rushed to help but also succumbed to unconsciousness and fell into the tank himself. Both workers tragically passed away.

Colleagues managed to retrieve their bodies and alerted the Saravanampatti police.

An investigation led by the police is currently underway to determine whether the workers died from electrocution or asphyxiation due to lack of oxygen inside the tank.

Further, the bodies were sent to the ES Hospital in Singanallur, Coimbatore, for autopsy. The police have stated that they will share more information on the cause of death following the autopsy results.
