Coimbatore: A tragic incident unfolded in Sridevi Nagar, Coimbatore, when 42-year-old flower vendor Srinivasan was fatally stabbed by his brother-in-law Shanmugam (55) following a heated altercation over a land deal dispute. Srinivasan, a resident of 4th Street Sridevi Nagar, had been managing a flower shop in the Town Hall area after his earlier venture, a textile shop, failed due to inadequate income.
Approximately 10 years ago, Srinivasan had purchased a 3.5 cents land deed from Shanmugam and mortgaged it to start the textile shop. Unable to generate expected revenue from the flower shop, he could not reclaim the mortgaged land deed, leading to frequent conflicts between the two.
On June 9, Shanmugam confronted Srinivasan at his home demanding the immediate return of the land deed. The argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Shanmugam, who had concealed a knife, stabbed Srinivasan multiple times. Despite the efforts of relatives who rushed to intervene upon hearing the commotion, Shanmugam fled the scene.
Srinivasan succumbed to his injuries on the spot due to a stab wound to the left side of his chest. His body was later sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Gandhipuram police have registered a murder case against Shanmugam and are conducting further investigations into the dreadful crime.
