Coimbatore: Ahead of the upcoming Bakrid festival, the Pollachi cattle market witnessed a significant increase in cattle sales. The market, known to be one of the largest livestock markets in South India, operates every Tuesday and Thursday, offering cows on Tuesdays and both goats and cows on Thursdays.

This time, in anticipation of Bakrid on June 17th, the market was exceptionally vibrant, with more than 10,000 cattle and buffaloes brought for sale from different Indian states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra, as well as from various districts within Tamil Nadu. The influx of cattle in the recent months averaged a trade worth Rs. 2 crores on market days.
