Major Developments in Coimbatore: Sterilization of Stray Dogs, 153 Crore Solar Units operational in Vellalore, and Safety Measures at Ukkadam Fish Market

Coimbatore has spent Rs. 53.22 lakh to sterilize 7,603 stray dogs. A new solar unit in Vellalore is set to distribute power to Podanur substation. Ukkadam Fish Market proposal submitted and fire safety measures upgraded in landfills.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore city has achieved significant milestones in urban management and welfare with several projects underway. According to the municipal commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran, the city has successfully sterilized 7,603 stray dogs at a cost of Rs. 53.22 lakh.

In an effort to boost renewable energy, Coimbatore has completed a major project in Vellalore, where a 50-acre solar facility worth Rs.150 crore has been installed. This installation is poised to produce and distribute electricity to the Podanur substation, enhancing the city's energy supply and sustainability efforts.

Furthermore, a proposal concerning the inauguration of the Ukkadam Fish Market has been submitted to the government. With this development, there are also significant improvements to fire safety at local waste landfills. Facilities for water have been provided to prevent fire accidents, ensuring that any fires can be managed by municipal workers themselves. Currently, the city employs 5,700 sanitation workers who collect and process approximately 1,200 tons of waste daily.
