DMK cannot claim authority to criticize BJP without its alliances, says Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan commented on DMK's criticism of BJP, stating DMK cannot stand without alliances. She referenced BJP's historical presence in Tamil Nadu since 1996.


Coimbatore: In a statement released on June 16, Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticized the DMK for its incapability to stand without coalitions and questioned its right to criticize the BJP. She highlighted that BJP had rooted itself in Tamil Nadu as back as 1996, challenging DMK's standalone capabilities.

Chief Minister MK Stalin, speaking at a DMK meeting in Coimbatore on June 15, mocked BJP's solo efforts in forming the government, citing instances where BJP had to rely on allies like Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar for forming the government. Stalin claimed that Rahul Gandhi's single gesture of presenting a sweets box has significantly countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's multiple visits aimed at building an image in Tamil Nadu.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance led by BJP secured 293 seats, which goes beyond the requisite majority, marking it as a significant achievement since the PM Narendra Modi’s consecutive win for the third time after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Despite securing majority seats more than the collective opposition in the South states, Stalin and other DMK leaders appear to disregard BJP's standalone success and claim the dominance of the 'Indi' coalition.

Srinivasan points out a historical representation since 1996 when BJP first won an assembly seat independently in Padmanabhapuram, escalating their presence independently in subsequent elections, including a notable win in the Kanyakumari constituency in 2014 without any alliances.

This direct confrontation from Srinivasan emphasizes the longstanding political battleground in Tamil Nadu and the complex coalition dynamics that shape its political landscape.
