Elderly Man Attacked by Elephant Near Maruthamalai, Coimbatore; CCTV Footage Goes Viral

An elderly man named Sivasubramanian was attacked by a wild elephant while walking near Nachiyar Madam, Maruthamalai, Coimbatore, on the early morning of June 15. He sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized.


Coimbatore: Human-elephant conflicts are recurrent near the Western Ghats, affecting Coimbatore District. In a concerning episode that took place near Maruthamalai, at Repreeze Colony close to Nachiyar Madam, Sivasubramanian was assaulted by a wild elephant. This incident occurred as he was walking along the road at around 3 AM on June 15.

The elephant, appearing suddenly, chased and attacked him, causing serious injuries. Sivasubramanian has been admitted to a hospital for medical care following the incident.

This attack was captured on CCTV, and the footage was released on June 17, spreading fear among the local community. The video has since gone viral, highlighting the ongoing issues of wildlife encroachment into populous areas.
