Coimbatore: In a dramatic midnight confrontation near the Madukkarai Toll Plaza, five men, including an Army personnel, were arrested following a failed robbery attempt. The incident occurred when Aslam Siddique, an advertisement agency owner from Ernakulam, was travelling back home with electronic goods purchased for his business.
Siddique, who was driving from Bengaluru, was ambushed by a gang who chased and tried to rob his vehicle. Displaying remarkable composure, Siddique managed to escape and reported the incident at the toll plaza's police outpost. The authorities quickly acted upon the intelligence provided by Siddique, whose car's dashcam recorded the harrowing episode.

The subsequent investigation, led by Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan, resulted in the capture of the suspects on the Salem-Kochi National Highway. Those arrested were Sivadas (age 29), Ramesh Babu (27), Vishnu (28) from Palakkad, and Ajay (24). It is revealed that the miscreants targeted Siddique under the belief that he was carrying illicit money, hoping to "settle" financially overnight. However, their assumptions were misguided, as authorities later cleared Siddique’s vehicle after verification and found no illegal cash.
The arrested individuals included Vishnu, who is currently an active Army staff member. Notably, Vishnu had arrived home on leave on April 4th but did not return to duty, later getting involved in the robbery. This arrest throws light on the unexpected involvement of a military personnel in criminal activities. The recovery of the vehicle used in the robbery and prompt action by the police led to successful detention and further investigations are ongoing.
