In Coimbatore, a young man killed the uncle of his girlfriend while rescuing her and injured a cab driver who was wrongly rumored dead online; leading to severe distress.
Coimbatore: A shocking incident occurred in Coimbatore, where a young man, identified as Mithun from Subramaniampalayam, fatally stabbed the uncle of his girlfriend during a confrontation. The tragic event escalated from a love affair that has been ongoing for two years. Harshini, aged 19, from Sai Baba Colony, and Mithun, 20, were known to be in a relationship, which was disapproved by the girl's family.
According to sources, on the 22nd, Mithun allegedly took Harshini from her home without her family's consent. Panic ensued when she was discovered missing, prompting her uncle Manikandan to contact Mithun. Manikandan, along with Harshini’s brother Aditya and a friend, Selvakannapathy, a cab driver from Gandhinagar, followed Mithun in search for her.
The search led them to various locations as Mithun kept misleading them about his whereabouts. Eventually, the confrontation happened near a bakery on KNG Pudur Road in Subramaniampalayam, where Mithun, along with a friend Prakash and an auto driver Muthu, were confronted by Manikandan and others.

During the heated argument, Mithun took out a knife and stabbed Manikandan in the chest and arm, and when Selvakannapathy tried to intervene, he too was stabbed in the abdomen. The assailants then fled the scene.

The injured Selvakannapathy informed the police and ambulance services, and the bystanders rushed Manikandan to the Ganga Hospital, where he was pronounced dead en route. Meanwhile, Selvakannapathy was admitted to a government hospital in Coimbatore and is currently receiving treatment. A case has been filed and a manhunt initiated to locate the fleeing suspects.

In a distressing mix-up, a photo of the injured cab driver Selvakannapathy was circulated online stating he had died, causing him great emotional distress. This prompted him to report the misinformation to the district authorities, requesting immediate action to rectify the situation and further investigate the tragic incident.
