Marudhamalai Temple Sees Increased Visits Following New Road Inauguration

Marudhamalai Temple, following a new road inauguration from adivaram in December 2023, has seen a 20% increase in visitor and vehicle numbers over the last six months. A lift installation is also underway to improve access.

Coimbatore: The Marudhamalai temple has seen a noticeable increase in both footfall and vehicle movement with a 20% rise recorded over the past six months. This surge follows the completion of a newly constructed road from adivaram to the temple in December 2023. The Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) official highlighted that the ease of access has significantly enhanced the experience for devotees and tourists.

The road project, designed to reduce congestion and promote a smoother journey for pilgrims, has garnered positive feedback from visitors. As per the temple authorities, the new infrastructure not only cuts down travel time but also boosts safety, prompting more people to visit the sacred site. Additionally, plans to better accommodate elderly and differently-abled guests are in progress, with 30% of the work on a new lift from the hilltop stairs to the temple entrance already completed. “This initiative was taken after our medical officer raised concerns about the challenges faced by the elderly during the climb,” stated the HR&CE official.
