GKNM Hospital in Coimbatore, in partnership with ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology, has launched a hypertension control initiative targeting a 50 Percent reduction in employee high blood pressure by 2025.
Coimbatore: GKNM Hospital, in an innovative collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), unveiled a hypertension control initiative for its employees on June 26th, 2024. This initiative aligns with the India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI) to improve treatment and prevent complications from high blood pressure among its workforce.
Speaking at the launch, Prof Dr. K.A. Sambasivam, Head of the Cardiology department, highlighted the program's goal to halve high blood pressure levels by 2025, making GKNM the first private sector entity to implement the IHCI in India. Dr. P. Ganeshkumar from ICMR-NIE underscored the critical nature of hypertension, often labeled a silent killer, and emphasized the importance of early detection and quality treatment within the organizational setting.
Dr. S. Santhosh Kumar Dora, Executive Medical Director at GKNM, discussed the establishment of the Hypertension Control Clinic within the hospital. This clinic is set to provide systematic health screenings, personalized advice, and comprehensive management strategies to the hospital's employees. The clinic aims to create a healthier, more productive working environment by facilitating easier access to medical resources. GKNM stands out as the first private sector hospital in India to integrate such a clinic solely focused on employee health in partnership with IHCI.
