Coimbatore Consumer Redressal Commission Orders Transport Firm to Compensate for Undelivered Goods

Rathnagiriswaran had booked to transport truck tyres worth ₹55,000 on March 5, 2022, at Mettur Transports’ Sidhapudur branch and had paid ₹800 as freight charges for the delivery supposed to be from Coimbatore to Hosur. However, the tyres were never delivered and the transport company had not responded to subsequent inquiries and claims made by the complainant.


Coimbatore: The district consumer disputes redressal commission has ruled in favor of a customer aggrieved by non-delivery of goods by a transport company. On a complaint filed by A N Rathnagiriswaran, a resident of GM Nagar at Ukkadam, the commission on Saturday mandated Mettur Transports to compensate for the consignment that failed to reach its destination. Rathnagiriswaran had booked to transport truck tyres worth ₹55,000 on March 5, 2022, at Mettur Transports’ Sidhapudur branch and had paid ₹800 as freight charges for the delivery supposed to be from Coimbatore to Hosur. However, the tyres were never delivered and the transport company had not responded to subsequent inquiries and claims made by the complainant. In response to the grievance, the consumer commission has ordered Mettur Transports to pay the entire value of the consignment ₹55,800, along with a 9% annual interest from the date of the initial complaint. Furthermore, the ruling includes a compensation of ₹10,000 for the distress caused and an additional ₹5,000 to cover the legal proceedings.
