Coimbatore: Over a hundred inhabitants of Virugalpatti, located near Udumalai in Tirupur district, have been enduring severe water supply issues, prompting a massive dharna at the local Union Office. The villagers, affected by the inconsistent water supply from the Thirumurthy Dam Joint Drinking Water Scheme, resorted to protest with empty pots to voice their grievances.

According to the residents, the water supply has not been regular for the past month, leading to significant hardship. Despite submitting formal complaints to the Union Council Chairperson and district authorities including the Rural Development Department of the Kudimangalam Union, no effective action has been taken. Frustrated by the unresponsiveness, over a hundred villagers gathered at the Union office, demanding immediate resolution and refusing to leave until their water supply is restored.
Currently, negotiations are underway between the public and officials from the Rural Development Department, as crowds continue to demonstrate, causing a stir in the area.
