Coimbatore City Corporation introduces AI technology in public restrooms, offering advanced amenities like people counting and automatic water control systems to enhance public service efficiency.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation is currently upgrading public restrooms across the city, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology as part of its modernization efforts.

These smart facilities aim to provide high-quality service to the public by utilizing advanced AI-driven technology.

Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran, in an exclusive interview with the SimpliCity News Team, shared insights into the initiative. "As part of our efforts to improve public amenities, we have selected five major traffic restrooms where the average daily footfall ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 people. These restrooms are being equipped with vandal-proof AI technology. We’ve designed them to offer five different types of service, enhancing user experience," he stated.
Among the services introduced are a 'People Counting System' that helps monitor usage patterns and identify peak usage times, and AI-based systems for water issues like 'Automatic Pumping' and 'Automatic Water Level Controlling', which ensure water availability and alert about malfunctions and power failures. These features help maintain water supply even during power outages, aided by heavy-duty vehicles.
Additionally, the restrooms are equipped with an 'Odor Control Device' to maintain cleanliness and a 'Feedback System' which incorporates the public's opinions to further improve services. "Following our initial implementation in 22 restrooms, we plan to extend these services to all the restrooms within the municipal area," added Commissioner Prabakaran.
This initiative not only facilitates efficient restroom management but also ensures sustainability and better service for the public.
