Intensive Vehicle Checks with Sniffer Dog at Aliyar Checkpoint to Prevent Forest Crimes

Forest officials conduct thorough vehicle inspections using a sniffer dog at Aliyar checkpoint near Pollachi to prevent forest crimes and raise awareness among tourists.

Coimbatore: In a bid to curb forest crimes and enhance forest protection, the Forest Department has intensified vehicle checks at the Aliyar checkpoint near Pollachi. The operation, led by Pollachi Forest Range Officer Gyana Balamurugan, is being carried out under the orders of Deputy Director Bhargava Teja.

The heightened security measures come in the wake of increasing drug usage across various parts of Tamil Nadu. The state government has been implementing numerous strategies to control this growing menace. Recently, an incident where over 50 people lost their lives due to the consumption of illicit liquor caused a stir in Tamil Nadu.

Forest officials are utilizing a sniffer dog named Bhairava to conduct thorough inspections of vehicles passing through the checkpoint. This initiative aims not only to prevent forest-related offenses but also to ensure the overall protection of the forest ecosystem.

During the afternoon checks, forest department personnel inspected vehicles of tourists, searching for prohibited items such as drugs, liquor bottles, and drug paraphernalia. Simultaneously, they took the opportunity to raise awareness among travelers about the dangers of these substances and the importance of forest conservation.

This intensified checking process at the Aliyar checkpoint serves as a deterrent to potential offenders and reinforces the forest department's commitment to preserving the natural habitat while combating illegal activities.
