Coimbatore's Multi-Level Car Parking Facility on DB Road Nears Completion

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is finalizing work on the new Multi-Level Car Parking facility on DB Road. The four-storey structure, built at a cost of Rs 41.67 crore, will soon be fully operational for motorists.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) is intensifying efforts to complete pending work at the newly constructed state-of-the-art Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility on DB Road. The civic body is planning to hand over the MLCP to a contractor and open it fully for motorists in the near future.

Built under the Cities Mission at a cost of Rs 41.67 crore, the four-storey MLCP has a capacity to accommodate 320 cars, with each floor capable of housing 80 vehicles. An additional 60 cars can be parked on the ground floor.

According to sources, the project faced delays due to financial disputes between the corporation and the building contractor, resulting in incomplete hydraulic lift facilities. The MLCP has not been functioning at full capacity for over a year.

Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran addressed the issue, stating, "The dispute between the contractor and the civic body will be rectified soon. Pending work at the MLCP will be completed shortly. We are planning to hand over the MLCP to a contractor after the upcoming council meeting."

Prabhakaran added that the MLCP would operate round the clock once fully functional. He also mentioned that the corporation is currently focusing on surface parking, as well as on-street and off-street parking solutions.

At present, the CCMC is utilizing only the ground floor and vacant spaces in front of the MLCP for car parking. The current parking rates are Rs 30 per car for the first hour, with an additional Rs 10 for every subsequent hour. The corporation has set rates of Rs 60 for four hours, Rs 80 for six hours, Rs 140 for 12 hours, Rs 200 for 18 hours, and Rs 260 for 24 hours. Monthly parking passes are available at Rs 3,540, including 18% GST.

The MLCP has already become popular among shoppers visiting RS Puram and employees working at nearby banks and private companies. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to significantly ease parking congestion in the area and provide a convenient solution for long-term parking needs.
