A Mother and son in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore, was defrauded of Rs 10 lakh by a man who promised to lease them a house. The incident occurred on April 24, and a police complaint was filed on July 4.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident of fraud, a couple from Saravanampatti, Coimbatore, was cheated of Rs 10 lakh by a man who promised to lease them a house. The incident has raised concerns about rental scams in the area.

Gunasundari (54), wife of late Venugopal (56) and her son, residents of Saravanampatti, were searching for a house to lease. During their search, they came across Rajasekar from South Arunachalam Colony in Coimbatore, who claimed to have a house available for rent in Maha Nagar, Saravanampatti.

On April 24, Gunasundari reportedly handed over Rs 10 lakh to Rajasekar as an advance payment for the house. However, after receiving the money, Rajasekar failed to hand over the house to the couple as promised.

Realizing they had been duped, Gunasundari filed a complaint at the Saravanampatti Police Station on July 4. The police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking rental properties in Coimbatore. Authorities advise residents to be vigilant and verify all details before making any financial transactions related to property rentals.
