Coimbatore District Police conducted a raid in Pollachi on July 5, 2024, seizing 2 kg of ganja worth Rs. 30,000. One person was arrested in the operation aimed at creating a drug-free Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: In a continued effort to eradicate drug abuse and create a drug-free Coimbatore, the district police, under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan IPS, conducted a successful raid in the Pollachi area on July 5, 2024.
Acting on a tip-off about ganja being brought for sale in the East Pollachi Police Station area, a special team of police officers conducted a search near Mackinampatti. They apprehended Jabarullah son of Shekpareed (23), a resident of Pollachi, who was found in possession of ganja intended for sale. The police seized 2 kg of ganja valued at Rs. 30,000 and an auto-rickshaw from the accused. The suspect was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
This operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on drug peddling in Coimbatore district. Since May 1, 2024, the district police have conducted special raids resulting in the registration of 67 cases against 109 individuals involved in drug trafficking. These operations have led to the seizure of approximately 188.725 kg of ganja and ganja-laced chocolates.
Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan has issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in drug peddling or any activities that disrupt law and order in the district.
The police have urged the public to report any information about drug-related crimes without hesitation.
