Coimbatore Electricity Board Urges Installation of RCD Devices for Enhanced Safety

Coimbatore Electricity Board recommends installing Residual Current Device (RCD) in old electrical connections to prevent accidents. Public advised on safety measures when dealing with trees near power lines.

Coimbatore: The Superintending Engineer of Coimbatore Electricity Board, M. Subramaniam, has issued a press release highlighting the increasing number of electrical accidents in recent months. These accidents are primarily attributed to consumer ignorance about electrical safety.

To address this issue, new electrical connections are now being provided with modern Residual Current Device (RCD) equipment. The RCD is a crucial safety device that immediately cuts off power in case of any electrical leakage, thereby protecting consumers from electrical accidents.

Subramaniam urged consumers with older electrical connections to install RCD devices to safeguard their families. This recommendation comes as part of a broader initiative to enhance electrical safety across the city.

The press release also included several safety guidelines for the public. When cutting trees or branches, residents are advised to be cautious of nearby power lines or electrical wires. If power lines are present, they should inform the nearest electricity office before proceeding with any work.

In cases of natural disasters where tree branches fall on power lines, the public is warned not to attempt removal themselves. Instead, they should immediately inform the Assistant Engineer or electricity board staff responsible for that area.

Lastly, the Electricity Board emphasized the importance of using only ISI-marked electrical appliances to ensure safety and quality standards are met.

These measures are part of the Electricity Board's ongoing efforts to reduce electrical accidents and promote safety awareness among Coimbatore residents.
