Central Secretary of MSME Ministry Praises Tiruppur's Contribution to National Economy

Central Secretary of MSME Ministry, Das, lauded Tiruppur's knitwear industry for its significant contribution to India's economy during a meeting with exporters in Tiruppur on Wednesday.

Coimbatore: The Central Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Das, expressed pride in Tiruppur's knitwear industry, stating that cities like Tiruppur are the backbone of the country's economy. This statement was made during a meeting with exporters in Tiruppur on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the Tiruppur Exporters Association office, was attended by Das, Tamil Nadu's MSME Secretary Archana Patnaik, and 10 other IAS officers. They engaged in discussions with Tiruppur's knitwear exporters to address various industry concerns and future prospects.

Archana Patnaik, speaking at the event, emphasized Tiruppur's significance as a key industrial city in Tamil Nadu, continuously drawing attention through its knitwear industry. She assured that the issues and long-standing demands of the MSME sector would be brought to the state government's attention.

Das highlighted the textile industry's leading position in exports, noting that synthetic fibers account for 70% of global textile usage. He attributed this to the extended winter seasons in foreign countries, which increases the demand for polyester. Das praised Tiruppur's current export value of Rs. 35,000 crores, stating that this robust infrastructure would help in further growth and contribute to the nation's development.

The Central Secretary also emphasized the need for increased focus on raw materials for green technology. He mentioned that NITI Aayog would play a role in taking the industry to the next level. Das concluded by reiterating that knitwear cities like Tiruppur are vital to the country's economy.

Following the speeches, the officials engaged in detailed discussions with industry representatives, listening to their views and concerns.
