VCK Leader Among 10 Arrested for Gambling in Pollachi

Pollachi police arrested 10 individuals, including a prominent VCK party member, for illegal gambling in a private residence. Cash and vehicles were seized during the raid.


Coimbatore: In a surprise raid conducted by the Pollachi police, ten individuals, including a prominent leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), were arrested for illegal gambling activities. The operation took place in Mahalakshmi Nagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mahalingapuram Police Station in Pollachi.

Local residents alerted the police about suspicious activities and an unusual influx of visitors to a house owned by one Venkatachalam in Mahalakshmi Nagar. Acting on this tip-off, the police kept the location under close surveillance. During a sudden inspection, they discovered an ongoing gambling operation involving high-stakes betting.



The raid resulted in the seizure of Rs. 2,70,000 in cash, three two-wheelers, and three cars from the premises.



Among those arrested was Prabhu, the Deputy Organizer for the Coimbatore and Nilgiris zone of the VCK party. Other individuals taken into custody include Karthikeyan, Manikandan, and Ganesh Babu, along with six others.

All ten suspects were taken to the police station for further questioning. The police are investigating the extent of the gambling operation and whether it has any wider connections. This incident has caused a stir in local political circles, given the involvement of a known political figure.

The Pollachi police have stated that they will continue to crack down on illegal gambling activities in the region. They have also urged the public to report any suspicious activities that might indicate illegal gambling or other unlawful operations in their neighborhoods.
