Coimbatore: In a shocking incident at the Coimbatore International Airport, a security guard was arrested for stealing money from a passenger's bag during a routine security check. The incident, which occurred on July 13, has raised concerns about the integrity of security personnel at the airport.

The Coimbatore International Airport serves both domestic and international flights. As part of standard security protocols, passengers' belongings are thoroughly checked by authorized personnel before they are allowed to proceed to their flights. The airport employs security staff on a contractual basis through private agencies to assist with these checks.

On July 13, while officials and security personnel were conducting routine checks on passengers' belongings, a security guard named Sivakumar, 58, was caught in the act of theft. Sivakumar, who was operating the scanning machine, took a passenger's bag for inspection. During this process, he discreetly removed Rs. 660 from the bag.

The vigilant passenger noticed the theft and immediately reported it to the security officials present at the scene. Following the complaint, Ajay Kumar, 39, an inspector from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), filed a formal complaint at the Peelamedu Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, the police swiftly arrested Sivakumar, a resident of Sengathurai in Sulur. The incident has sparked a debate on the need for stricter vetting processes for security personnel and enhanced surveillance measures within the airport premises.

Airport authorities have assured passengers that they are taking the matter seriously and will implement additional measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the highest standards of security and integrity at critical infrastructure facilities like airports.
