Panchayat President Stages Dharna Demanding Release of 2.75 Crore Funds for Goundachipudur in Dharapuram

Selvi Ramesh, President of Goundachipudur Panchayat, stages dharna outside Dharapuram Panchayat Union office demanding release of 2.75 crore rupees pending for three years, affecting development works.

Tirupur: Selvi Ramesh, the President of Goundachipudur Panchayat in Dharapuram Union of Tirupur district, staged a dharna protest in front of the Panchayat Union office on Monday. The protest was to demand the release of 2.75 crore rupees that has been due to the panchayat administration for the past three years.

Goundachipudur Panchayat has been facing a severe lack of basic facilities for the past few months. Last week, residents of the panchayat submitted a petition to the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Senthil Arasan, threatening to go on a hunger strike on the 26th if the basic amenities were not provided in various areas under the panchayat.

Following this, Selvi Ramesh sat in protest outside the Dharapuram Panchayat Union office. She stated that the 2.75 crore rupees due to Goundachipudur Panchayat for the past three years has not been released, hindering any development works in the area. The protest caused a stir at the Panchayat Union office.

Speaking about the issue, the Panchayat President said, "Due to the lethargic attitude of government officials in releasing development charges, I have gained a bad reputation among the people for not being able to carry out public works. The government should immediately take notice and release the funds due for development works in my panchayat."

Selvi Ramesh has vowed to continue the dharna protest until the District Collector ensures the release of the development funds to the panchayat. The peaceful protest highlights the financial constraints faced by local bodies and the impact on grassroots development in rural areas.
