The 12th Coimbatore Marathon, scheduled for December 15, 2024, launches registrations. Senior district officials inaugurate the event, expecting over 20,000 participants to raise cancer awareness.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) has officially launched registrations for the 12th edition of the Walkaroo Coimbatore Marathon powered by ELGi Equipments, set to take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024. This highly anticipated event is expected to draw over 20,000 participants from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing its status as a premier running event in the region.
Senior district officials, including District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati IAS, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan IPS, and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS, inaugurated the registration process and signed up to participate in the marathon.

Since its inception in 2013, the Coimbatore Marathon has raised over Rs. 4.75 crores, significantly supporting CCF's initiatives to assist cancer survivors and their families while creating widespread cancer awareness among citizens. Building on last year's successful "Let's ko, Kovai" campaign, this year's event aims to inspire active participation and foster a collaborative spirit towards achieving common objectives.
The 2024 marathon will feature four categories: Half Marathon (21.1 km), 10 km run, 5 km timed run, and 5 km walk. Registration fees are set at Rs. 1,300 for the Half Marathon, Rs. 1,100 for the 10 km run, Rs. 850 for the 5 km timed run, and Rs. 600 for the 5 km walk.
A total prize pool of Rs. 2.7 lakhs will be distributed among winners in separate categories for men and women. The Half Marathon open category winners will receive Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000 for first, second, and third places respectively. For the 10 km open category, prizes are Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000, and Rs. 5,000 for the top three positions.
Additionally, a veterans category for participants aged 45 years and above has been introduced. In the Half Marathon, veterans can win Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000, and Rs. 5,000 for the first three positions, while the 10 km run offers Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500, and Rs. 5,000 for the top three finishers.
