Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Inaugurates Team Sports Competitions at R.S. Puram Shastri Ground

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS inaugurated team sports competitions for corporation officers, school teachers, and staff at R.S. Puram Shastri Ground on July 25, 2024, in the presence of Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation's team sports competitions for corporation officers, school teachers, and staff were inaugurated today (25.07.2024) at the R.S. Puram Shastri Ground in the Western Zone. Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS flagged off the event in the presence of Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan.

The competitions are divided into six zones: East, West, North, South, Central, and Main, covering the Coimbatore Corporation area. Officers, teachers, and staff working in these zones are participating in the competitions representing their respective zones.



The team sports for men include football, cricket, chess, carrom, shuttle badminton, and volleyball. For women, the team sports consist of throwball, shuttle badminton, carrom, chess, and tennikoit.



Track and field events include 100m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 1500m (walk), long jump, shotput, and 4x100m relay. These events are divided into two categories: under 40 years and over 40 years of age.



The 1500m walk is open only to participants over 50 years old. Competitors in the track and field category can participate in any two events and one relay race. For the 100m and 200m races with a high number of participants, winners will be selected based on their timings in the qualifying rounds.



The competitions for participants under 40 years of age are scheduled for today (25.07.2024), while those for over 40 years will be held on 27.07.2024.

Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran wished all participants good luck and encouraged them to compete well and achieve success.

The event was attended by Zonal Committee Chairpersons Vekadhirvel (North) and Meenalogu (Central), Standing Committee Chairpersons P. Mariselvan (Public Health) and Santhosh (Town Planning), Council Members Selvaraj and Alagu Jeyapalan, Zonal Assistant Commissioners Sridevi (North), Muthusamy (East), Ilangovan (South), and Sandhiya (West), along with engineers, assistant engineers, zonal health officers, health inspectors, school teachers, and corporation staff.
