Over 500 Residents Protest Against Coimbatore Corporation's Negligence in Kuniyamuthur

More than 500 residents of Kuniyamuthur staged a protest against Coimbatore Corporation, citing poor road conditions, inadequate water supply, and lack of basic amenities. The demonstration briefly disrupted traffic on Palakkad Road.

Coimbatore: Over 500 residents of Kuniyamuthur staged a protest against the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, causing a stir in the area. The demonstration briefly disrupted traffic on Palakkad Road.

The protest was organized by residents of Ward 87, which includes areas like Kuniyamuthur, Vasantham Nagar, and PKG Nagar. The main grievance of the protesters was the deplorable condition of roads in their locality.

They claimed that the Corporation had dug up major roads and connecting streets near Wahab Petrol Bunk but failed to properly close them, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

Residents also complained about inadequate water supply and contamination of drinking water with sewage. They alleged that despite multiple complaints to the Ward 87 DMK Councillor Babu and the Corporation officials, no action has been taken to address these issues.

The demonstrators expressed their frustration over the lack of basic amenities in their area. They stated that the poor condition of roads has made it difficult for parents to send their children to school, fearing accidents due to slippery surfaces. The residents also accused the elected councillors and corporation officials of neglecting their area and failing to visit despite winning their votes.

Another major concern raised during the protest was the irregular garbage collection. Residents complained that corporation workers do not come to collect household waste regularly, leading to waste accumulation and foul odor in residential areas. They warned that this negligence could lead to the spread of diseases, especially during the rainy season, and claimed that many residents are already undergoing treatment in hospitals due to such health issues.

The protesters demanded immediate action from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation to address these long-standing issues and improve the living conditions in their area.
