AIADMK councilors at Coimbatore Corporation council meeting protested against passing over 300 resolutions in a single day, alleging corruption and lack of scrutiny. Heated arguments ensued during the session.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation council meeting, chaired by Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran and Deputy Mayor Vetriselvan, witnessed heated arguments as AIADMK councilors protested against the passing of over 300 resolutions in a single day.
AIADMK councilor Prabhakaran accused the Deputy Mayor of unilaterally deciding to present 333 resolutions. He alleged that these resolutions involved the exchange of several crore rupees and claimed corruption had taken place. "Last week, they gave 100 resolutions. Now, they've given 250 resolutions. How can anyone read all of these in a single day? Ask if any DMK councilor has read these resolutions," Prabhakaran challenged.

During the meeting, Prabhakaran pointed out that 333 resolutions were being passed simultaneously without allocating time even to read them. This led to a heated argument between AIADMK and DMK councilors. Amidst the ongoing dispute, Deputy Mayor Vetriselvan announced that all 333 resolutions had been passed without any discussion, creating a tense atmosphere in the council.
Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran and Deputy Mayor Vetriselvan intervened to calm the situation. They requested the councilors to allow the meeting to proceed peacefully for now and suggested discussing the matter later. Following this intervention, the AIADMK councilors were pacified, and the meeting continued.
The incident has raised concerns about the transparency and thoroughness of the decision-making process in the Coimbatore Corporation Council, with opposition members demanding more time for scrutiny and debate on important resolutions.
