Coimbatore: In an unusual incident in Coimbatore's Kaattur area, a man who broke into a house with the intention of robbing it was arrested after he fell asleep inside due to intoxication.
Rajan (53), a businessman from Ram Nagar in Kaattur, had locked his house and gone to visit his wife in Kathirnaickanpalayam, as he usually does once a week. When he returned home two days later, he was shocked to find the front door open and a stranger sleeping on the floor in a drunken state.
Alarmed by the situation, Rajan immediately informed the Kaattur police. The police arrived at the scene and apprehended the intruder, who was identified as Balasubramanian (48) from Karumathampatti. During questioning, Balasubramanian admitted that he had entered the house with the intention of stealing but had fallen asleep.
The police provided more details about the incident: "The arrested man, Balasubramanian, has no relatives. He usually works odd jobs and drinks heavily. On the day of the incident, he noticed Rajan's house was locked and dark. Thinking it was an opportunity to break in and steal, he broke the lock and entered. Due to the darkness inside and his intoxicated state, he stumbled and fell. Unable to get up because of his drunkenness, he fell asleep right there."
The police added that if Rajan hadn't returned that night, the situation might have been different. Balasubramanian was arrested the day before yesterday and is now facing charges for breaking and entering.
