A couple in an illicit relationship was arrested for assaulting and robbing an 80-year-old woman in Kalappatti, Coimbatore. The duo stole a 3-sovereign gold chain from the victim on July 24.
Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a couple involved in an illicit relationship was arrested for assaulting and robbing an elderly woman in Kalappatti, near Coimbatore. The accused, identified as Narmada alias Nadia (23) from Gudalur, Nilgiris district, and her lover Vigneshwaran alias Vicky (28) from Kalappatti, were apprehended by the Kovil Palayam police on July 26.
The incident occurred on July 24 when 80-year-old Nanjammal, a resident of Old Post Office Street in Kalappatti, was alone at her home. A young man wearing a helmet entered her house, attacked her, and fled with her 3-sovereign gold chain. Neighbors found the injured Nanjammal and admitted her to a private hospital.
Following a complaint, the Kovil Palayam police registered a case and began investigating. Upon reviewing CCTV footage from the area, they discovered that a man and a woman were involved in the robbery and were staying in the vicinity.
The police launched an intensive search operation and arrested the couple. During interrogation, it was revealed that Narmada, whose husband had left her, had entered into a relationship with Vicky. The couple had rented a house in the area and committed the robbery due to financial constraints.
The stolen 3-sovereign gold chain was recovered from the accused. Both Narmada and Vicky were produced before the court on July 26 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
