Tirupur: Forest officials have arrested five individuals for poaching a spotted Sambar Deer in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve near Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district. The arrest came following a tip-off about illegal hunting activities in the Jambukkalkaradu area.

During the operation, the officials apprehended five suspicious individuals carrying bags. The suspects were taken to the Udumalaipettai Forest Range office for questioning. The interrogation revealed that the accused had set up traps in the Jambukkalkaradu hill area to hunt spotted Sambar Deer and were attempting to sell the meat.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by forest officials in protecting wildlife from poaching activities. The Anamalai Tiger Reserve authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities in the forest areas to help combat wildlife crimes and preserve the region's biodiversity.
