Coimbatore: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Coimbatore is set to organize a peace rally on August 7 to mark the 6th death anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, fondly known as Kalaignar.
N. Karthik, the DMK Coimbatore District Secretary and former MLA, made this announcement on August 3. The rally is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM from the junction of V.K.K. Menon Road and Avarampalayam Road in Siddapudur, Coimbatore.
The procession will conclude near the Anna statue in Gandhipuram, where party members will pay floral tributes to a portrait of Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Karthik described Karunanidhi as a distinguished leader, an outstanding administrator, a five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and an unparalleled leader of Tamils worldwide.
In his statement, Karthik highlighted Karunanidhi's 50-year tenure as the president of the DMK and his role as a prominent guide in all-India politics. He also referred to the late leader as "Muthamizh Arignar" (scholar of Tamil) and "Semmozhi Kaavalar" (guardian of classical language).
The peace rally aims to honor Karunanidhi's memory and celebrate his contributions to Tamil Nadu and the Dravidian movement. The DMK expects a large turnout of party cadres and supporters for this commemorative event in Coimbatore.
