Policeman Arrested Under POCSO Act for Sexually Harassing School Girl in Kovilpalayam

A policeman named Ravikumar was arrested under the POCSO Act for extorting money and sexually harassing an 8th-grade student in Kovilpalayam. The incident came to light following a complaint from the girl's parents.


Coimbatore: A policeman has been arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually harassing an 8th-grade student in Kovilpalayam, near Coimbatore.

Recently, an 8th-grade boy and girl were talking privately in the Kovilpalayam area. At that time, Ravikumar, a policeman working at the Kovilpalayam police station, was on patrol duty. He took a photo of the two students talking alone on his mobile phone and obtained their phone numbers.

Later, Ravikumar contacted the girl on her mobile phone and asked her to come to a specific location. It is alleged that when the girl arrived, Constable Ravikumar not only extorted money from her but also spoke obscenely and sexually harassed her.

After the student informed her parents about this incident, they filed a complaint against Constable Ravikumar at the police station. Based on the complaint, the police conducted an investigation. Upon confirming that Constable Ravikumar had indeed extorted money and sexually harassed the student, they arrested him on August 6 under the POCSO Act.

This incident has caused great shock among the local residents. The public has expressed that such incidents, which continue to undermine the trust in the police force, are condemnable.
