82 Establishments in Erode Face Legal Action for Violating Independence Day Labour Rules

The Labour Department has registered cases against 82 establishments in Erode district for not declaring a holiday or providing double wages to employees on Independence Day, August 15.

Coimbatore: The Labour Department has taken legal action against 82 shops, eateries, commercial establishments, and transport companies in Erode district for violating labour regulations on Independence Day, August 15. These establishments failed to declare a holiday for their workers or provide double wages as mandated by law.

V.M. Thirugnanasambandam, Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Enforcement), released a statement detailing the department's actions. On Thursday, officials conducted inspections at 105 establishments across Erode, Bhavani, Perundurai, Gobichettipalayam, and Sathyamangalam. The inspections revealed that 82 of these establishments had not only failed to declare a holiday for their employees but also did not provide double wages for work on Independence Day.

Furthermore, these establishments did not obtain the necessary permission from the Labour Department for their employees to work on the national holiday. As a result, cases have been registered against all 82 establishments found in violation of these labour regulations.

This action by the Labour Department underscores the importance of adhering to labour laws, especially on national holidays. It serves as a reminder to all businesses in the region about their responsibilities towards their employees and the legal consequences of non-compliance.
