Residents of tribal villages near Anaikatti in Coimbatore have petitioned the District Collector seeking permission to install and worship Vinayagar idols in their villages during Vinayagar Chaturthi.
Coimbatore: Residents from tribal villages near Anaikatti in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the District Collector, requesting permission to install and worship Vinayagar idols in their villages during the upcoming Vinayagar Chaturthi festival.
For Vinayagar Chaturthi, the district administration typically grants permission to various Hindu organizations, political parties, and local residents across Coimbatore district to install Vinayagar idols, conduct worship, and immerse them in water bodies.
In this context, residents from five tribal villages including Thumanur, Kandivazhi, Jambukandi, and Kondanur near Anaikatti have approached the District Collector seeking permission to install and worship Vinayagar idols in their own villages.
Speaking about their request, the villagers stated that every year they have been visiting nearby villages to participate in the worship and festivities. This year, they expressed their desire to install idols in their own villages. They mentioned that they had initially approached the local police station for permission, but were directed to seek approval from the district administration, leading to the submission of this petition.
The tribal villagers hope that their request will be considered favorably, allowing them to celebrate Vinayagar Chaturthi within their own communities for the first time.
