Coimbatore: The Krishnasamy Temple in Panneer Madai village near Thudiyalur, Coimbatore, celebrated Krishna Jayanthi with special pujas and traditional events. The festivities included Uriadi (pot-breaking) and Vazhukku Maram (greased pole climbing) competitions, which saw enthusiastic participation from children and youth.

As part of the nationwide celebration of Krishna Jayanthi, the temple organized various rituals and cultural programs. These included Ganapati Homam, Abhishekam, Chendai Melam performances, and special decorations for the deity. Children dressed as Radha and Krishna visited the temple, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The Uriadi event, a highlight of the celebration, featured a pot filled with milk hung at a height. Participants, both men and women, attempted to break the pot while onlookers splashed water on them to make the task more challenging.

Following this, the Vazhukku Maram climbing competition began. A 60-foot-tall pole was prepared by peeling its bark and applying a mixture of Aloe vera and oil to make it slippery. The event, held in the temple grounds, attracted numerous young participants.

Many youths competed to climb the greased pole, with several slipping and falling in their attempts. After a grueling three-hour struggle, a local youth named Prakash successfully reached the top of the pole and claimed the prizes tied there, impressing the onlookers.

The celebrations concluded with a procession of Lord Krishna on the Garuda Vahanam through the main streets of Panneer Madai. Annadanam (free food distribution) was conducted throughout the day. The event organizers, including the temple's executive officer, hereditary trustee, festival committee, and local residents, had made extensive arrangements for the celebration.

Thousands of devotees participated in the festivities, making it a grand success.
