Government Arts College Coimbatore Secures 5-Year Autonomous Status Extension

The University Grants Commission has extended the autonomous status of Government Arts College, Coimbatore for five more years, from 2023 to 2027, following a thorough evaluation of the institution's performance.

Coimbatore: The Government Arts College, Coimbatore, the oldest college in the city established in 1852, has received a five-year extension of its autonomous status from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college, affiliated with Bharathiar University, has been functioning as an autonomous institution since 1987.

The UGC, which reviews and extends the autonomous status of colleges every five years, has granted the extension for the period from 2023 to 2027. This decision came after the college administration applied for the renewal following the expiration of its previous autonomous status in the 2023 academic year.

Following a comprehensive assessment of the college's autonomous functions, the UGC issued an order extending the autonomous status for another five years. This extension allows the institution to continue its self-governance in academic matters, curriculum development, and examination systems.

Upon receiving the autonomous status extension order, the Controller of Examinations Dr. Selvaraj, along with professors, the financial officer, and all staff members, congratulated the Principal Dr. Ezhili by presenting a bouquet of flowers. This gesture symbolizes the collective achievement and the continued commitment of the institution towards maintaining high academic standards and administrative efficiency.

The renewal of autonomous status is seen as a recognition of the college's consistent performance and adherence to quality education standards set by the UGC. It also reinforces the institution's ability to design and implement innovative curricula and evaluation methods tailored to meet the evolving needs of students and the education sector.
