Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated the 'Poshan Abhiyan' Nutrition Exhibition on September 2, marking the National Nutrition Month. The event showcased various aspects of maternal and child nutrition.
Coimbatore: The 'Poshan Abhiyan' Nutrition Exhibition, organized as part of the National Nutrition Month observed from September 1 to 30 every year, was inaugurated today (Sep. 02) at the Coimbatore District Collector's Office. District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati officially opened the exhibition by lighting a traditional lamp made from banana stem and flower.
The Collector distributed nutrition kits to pregnant women and mothers, and then toured the exhibition, inquiring about the practical demonstrations. Following this, he led the gathering in taking a pledge for the National Nutrition Month.
Speaking at the event, Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati highlighted the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about nutrition for pregnant women and newborns. He mentioned that nutritious food items are being provided at Anganwadis and assured that all Anganwadis in the district are continually being equipped with necessary basic facilities.
The exhibition featured informative displays about the crucial 1000-day period from the start of pregnancy until the child reaches two years of age. Banners with explanatory images detailed the practices to be followed during this period. Additionally, the exhibition showcased vaccination schedules, effects of nutritional deficiencies, nutrient-rich foods, practical demonstrations, and early childhood education materials.
The event emphasized the importance of proper nutrition and care during pregnancy and early childhood, aligning with the objectives of the Integrated Child Development Services scheme and the broader Poshan Abhiyan initiative.
