Tamil Nadu Government Announced Measures to Enhance Medical Professionals' Safety

Following the tragic incident in Kolkata, the Tamil Nadu government has implemented new safety measures for medical facilities, including mandatory police outposts and CCTV surveillance in hospitals across the state.

Coimbatore: In response to the recent tragic incident in Kolkata where a medical student was murdered, the Tamil Nadu Health Department has swiftly implemented a comprehensive new safety plan to ensure the protection of medical professionals and staff in hospitals across the state.

The government has mandated the establishment of police outposts in all hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed throughout hospital premises to enhance surveillance and security.

Two committees will be formed in each hospital - one for consultation and another for security purposes - to address the safety concerns of hospital staff. The government has also decided to restrict visitor access to specific hours and implement a visitor identification card system.

To bolster nighttime security, hospitals are required to install adequate lighting around their perimeters. Furthermore, hospitals must display banners warning of strict action against those who assault medical personnel.

These measures reflect the government's commitment to creating a safer working environment for healthcare professionals in the wake of increasing concerns about their safety. The new directives aim to prevent incidents of violence against medical staff and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services to the public.

The Tamil Nadu government's proactive approach in implementing these safety measures is expected to set a precedent for other states to follow, potentially leading to a nationwide improvement in hospital security protocols.
