Auto workers stage protest in Coimbatore demanding fair wages and benefits

Auto workers in Coimbatore staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding fair wages, implementation of an auto app, and ESI benefits for their families. The demonstration caused brief traffic disruptions in the area.

Coimbatore: Auto workers in Coimbatore staged a protest on Tuesday, putting forward a list of demands to improve their working conditions and benefits. The demonstration, organized by the AITUC (All India Trade Union Congress) Auto Workers Union, took place in front of the BSNL office in the city.

The protesters presented a nine-point charter of demands, which included the immediate announcement and implementation of an auto app with fair pricing. They also called for the implementation of the ESI (Employees' State Insurance) scheme to provide medical facilities for auto and motor vehicle drivers and their families.

More than 20 auto workers participated in the protest, raising slogans to emphasize their demands. The demonstration caused brief traffic disruptions in the area as the workers gathered to voice their concerns.

The auto workers' union stressed the importance of fair wages and better working conditions for their members. They argued that the implementation of an official auto app would help regulate fares and ensure a steady income for the drivers.

The demand for ESI benefits highlighted the need for better healthcare access for auto workers and their families, especially given the nature of their work and potential health risks associated with it.

Local authorities were made aware of the protest, and efforts are expected to be made to address the auto workers' concerns. The union leaders stated that they would continue to press for their demands until a satisfactory resolution is reached.
