In Coimbatore, a woman filed a complaint against three individuals for issuing death threats, demanding the withdrawal of a sexual harassment case against their relative. The incident occurred in Mullai Nagar, Goundampalayam.

Coimbatore: A woman in Coimbatore has filed a complaint against three individuals for allegedly issuing death threats, demanding the withdrawal of a sexual harassment case. The incident has brought to light the complexities surrounding legal proceedings and family pressures in such sensitive cases.

Kanak Lakshmi, 46, a resident of Mullai Nagar near Seran Nagar in Goundampalayam, had previously filed a complaint at the All Women Police Station (Central) against a man named Murugan. The complaint accused Murugan of sexually harassing Lakshmi's younger daughter. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Murugan.

In a disturbing turn of events, Murugan's wife Banupriya, his mother Chinnammaal, and sister Palaniammal allegedly approached Kanak Lakshmi. They reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw the case against Murugan. Feeling intimidated and fearing for her safety, Lakshmi decided to take action.

On September 4, Kanak Lakshmi approached the Goundampalayam Police Station and lodged a formal complaint against the three women. She detailed the threats made against her and sought protection and legal action. The police have registered a case based on Lakshmi's complaint.

Authorities are now actively searching for Banupriya, Chinnammaal, and Palaniammal. The case highlights the challenges faced by victims and their families when pursuing legal action in cases of sexual harassment, especially when confronted with threats and intimidation from the accused's relatives.

The incident has raised concerns about witness protection and the need for a supportive environment for those who come forward to report crimes. As the investigation continues, local activists and women's rights groups are closely monitoring the case, emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice and safety for victims of sexual harassment.
