Lemon Prices Skyrocket at Coimbatore's Anna Market

Lemon prices at Coimbatore's Anna Market have surged from Rs.150-160 to Rs.200-230 per kg in just two days due to reduced supply and increased demand for auspicious occasions.

Coimbatore: The price of lemons at Coimbatore's Anna Market has seen a dramatic increase over the past two days, causing concern among consumers and traders alike.

Until recently, lemons were being sold at a rate of Rs.150 to Rs.160 per kilogram. However, the market has witnessed a sudden spike in prices, with lemons now being sold for Rs.200 to Rs.230 per kilogram as of September 5th.

The primary reason for this steep price hike is attributed to a significant reduction in the supply of lemons to the market. This shortage has coincided with an increase in demand, leading to the sharp rise in prices.

Traders at the market have pointed out that the price surge is also partly due to the upcoming auspicious days for ceremonies and rituals. During such periods, the demand for lemons typically increases as they are used in various traditional practices and religious ceremonies.

The sudden price increase has caught many consumers off guard, particularly those who rely on lemons for daily cooking and health purposes. It remains to be seen how long this price trend will continue and whether it will impact other citrus fruits in the market as well.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation, but as of now, no immediate measures have been announced to control the rising lemon prices at Anna Market.
