BJP Accuses DMK of Promoting Alcohol Culture in Tamil Nadu

BJP's Coimbatore South District President Vasantha Rajan criticizes DMK government for increasing private bars despite promises to close TASMAC shops gradually, alleging a rise in alcohol culture and crime.

Coimbatore: The BJP has accused the DMK government of transforming Tamil Nadu into a state with an alcohol-driven culture by opening more private bars, despite earlier promises to gradually close TASMAC shops.

This allegation was made by Vasantha Rajan, BJP's Coimbatore South District President, during a welfare assistance distribution event and membership drive organized by the BJP Women's Wing at Karuppampalayam village near Pollachi. The event was held to mark Prime Minister Modi's birthday celebrations.

Rajan distributed sarees and other welfare items to over 200 women and inaugurated the membership drive. Speaking to reporters afterwards, he stated that efforts were underway to enroll one lakh members in Coimbatore district, with 16,000 people already joined. He claimed that villagers were enthusiastically joining the BJP.

Criticizing the DMK's three-year rule, Rajan alleged that none of their election promises had been fulfilled. He cited unfulfilled promises such as the Anaimalayaru-Nallaru project and the distribution of coconut oil through fair price shops. Rajan accused the government of accepting bribes to move dyeing factories from the white list to the orange list, creating pressure on businesses for bribes.

The BJP leader further alleged that while the DMK promised to gradually close government liquor shops, they were instead opening more private bars. This, he claimed, has led to an increase in alcohol culture, resulting in a rise in murders, thefts, rapes, and riots. Rajan concluded by stating that people, unable to tolerate this situation, were increasingly joining the BJP.
