Health officials intensify surveillance in Kerala border areas of Coimbatore amidst Nipah virus concerns

Health department officials have heightened surveillance in Kerala border areas of Karamadai, Coimbatore, following a Nipah virus death in Malappuram. Checkpoints and medical teams have been deployed for intensive screening.


Coimbatore: In response to the recent Nipah virus death of a youth from Malappuram, Kerala, health officials have intensified surveillance measures in the Kerala border areas of Karamadai, Coimbatore district. The state government has ordered stringent protective measures at checkpoints along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.

Health department officials have established rigorous monitoring protocols in the Kerala border regions of Karamadai. Medical teams have been stationed at Gopanari and Mulli areas to conduct thorough screenings.

A five-member team led by Dr. Praveen, including Health Inspector Hemalatha, two nurses, and a pharmacist, is actively engaged in fever screening of vehicle passengers traveling through these routes. Additionally, individuals entering Karamadai and surrounding areas are being subjected to fever tests.

Passengers in vehicles are undergoing fever screenings as part of the preventive measures. The health officials are also continuously providing public awareness information about the Nipah virus to educate and alert the local population.

These intensified efforts aim to prevent the potential spread of the Nipah virus and ensure early detection of any suspected cases in the border regions of Coimbatore district.
